Forage to Fiber Natural Dye Experience- Saturday September 27th; 10am-1pm

$70.00

Want to dye your own yarn from flowers you’ve picked yourself and learn a bit about natural dyeing along the way? If so, this is the experience for you!!

We’ll forage goldenrod and pick marigolds at the studio, then dye five mini skeins of merino/cashmere/nylon fingering weight yarn (80 yds each, 400 yds total).

The result will be your own unique mini skein set in shades of yellow and green—a lovely palette something like our Daffodil mini set from several years ago.

The Forage to Fiber Experience includes:

•Learning about pre-mordanting with alum

•Foraging and extracting dye from the flowers

•Trying immersion and eco-printing methods of dyeing

•Exploring color shifting with copper and iron

•Taking home your mini set and a handout about the steps in natural dyeing

Goldenrod contains lutein, a wonderful colorfast bright yellow dye material that can be shifted to mossy yellow green with copper and to a soft sage green with iron. Marigold petals speckle a wonderful warm yellow, and the seeds can give a brownish green effect. Both dye materials will be used in this experience.

What you’ll need to bring:

•Shoes and long pants appropriate for walking in a meadow

•Clothes that you don’t mind if they get stained while dyeing, or an apron (accidents do happen!)

Looking forward to sharing this experience with you! 💛💚
