Hand paint some sock yarn with us at the Sandpiper in Bridgman, Michigan to celebrate I Love Yarn Day ! You’ll learn a little bit about natural dyeing and explore your creative side as you hand-paint your own custom 100g skein of fingering weight merino/cashmere/nylon yarn. Of course you can always do something else with your yarn, but this yarn makes luxurious socks!

What to expect

The focus of our time together will be on the joy of creating a special, one-of-a-kind skein of yarn with natural dyes. We will provide a brief orientation to natural dyeing, and most of the session will be spent painting your own skein. We will send you home with instructions on how to steam at home.

Dyeing is messy, especially using the technique of hand painting. We recommend wearing clothes and shoes that can withstand the risk of stain. While the materials we are using will not dye your clothes, they can make stains (and we will talk about why there’s a difference).

The cost of the class includes a 100g skein of Color Me Happy Fiber Arts MCN High Twist Sock (400 yds/100g; 80% merino, 10% cashmere, 10% nylon), natural dye materials, instruction, and a handout with resources. A second skein may be purchased on site for $25 depending on class size.
