Creating with Community

One of the visions Linda and I had when we started developing our fiber studio was to be able to partner with other makers to give back to the community, while being part of a community.

Our first knitting class — with more teachers than learners!

Last Sunday marked another beginning for us in realizing this vision – “Learn to Knit!” classes. Partnering with PFLAG of Fishers and in support of the mission of our gifting partner, Knit the Rainbow (KtR), we started these classes to help connect with others who enjoy making and want to support LGBTQ+ youth. Our plan is to meet weekly, for 8 weeks, to help people learn to knit.  We have linked our schedule and some learn-to-knit resources here.

Along the way, we will be making a winter accessory -- Hat, Cowl, or Ear warmer – that we will then donate. Some will be donated for our local community of LGBTQ+ youth experiencing or at risk for homelessness and some for KtR.  If you live near/in Fishers and want to join us on Sunday afternoons (3-5), just let us know (info@colormehappyfiberarts.com). Learners and knitters of all levels are welcome!

If you can’t join us, but want to contribute to the cause, let us know if we can help you. We encourage donations directly to Knit the Rainbow (KtR), and we will be looking for a local yarn store to help us partner with KtR for local distribution in Indiana.  Now that it is officially Fall here, it’s a great time to be thinking about those winter accessories and making with giving in mind!
