Let's dye a mini skein set at The Knitting Otter (May 2; Franklin, IN)
A 2-hour workshop geared for knitters and crocheters who want to learn a little about natural dyes and have a fun experience creating their own hand-painted yarn. We will be dyeing a set of mini skeins, which are great for socks, shawlettes, cowls, hats, mitts — or pair them with other yarn for larger projects.
No prior dyeing experience required. If you have taken our hand painting class, you may already have ideas of how you would create your special set.
The cost of the class (per person) includes a set of 5 mini-skeins of merino/cashmere/nylon blend), natural dye materials, instruction, and a handout with resources.

What to expect
The focus of our time together will be on the joy of creating a special set of mini skeins of yarn with natural dyes. We will provide a brief orientation to natural dyeing, color choices and application tips, and most of the session will be spent painting your own skeins. We will send you home with instructions on how to steam at home (it’s easy to do with no special equipment needed).
Dyeing is messy, especially using the technique of hand painting. We recommend wearing clothes and shoes that can withstand the risk of stain. While the materials we are using will not dye your clothes, they can make stains (and we will talk about why there’s a difference).
The cost of the class includes a set of miniskeins of Color Me Happy Fiber Arts yarn (a sets of five, 20g skeins of fingering weight merino/cashmere/nylon blend; totaling 400 yards), natural dye materials, instruction, and a handout with resources. We will help you create a coordinated set (e.g., a fade, or complementary color blocks).
